Also called eco dyeing, eco printing is a contemporary application of traditional natural dyeing. Eco dyeing uses plants which are enclosed within fabric by bundling, winding over rods or stacked in layers and then steamed or immersed in hot water to extract the pigments and produce a print made with plant dyes.
Presented by ClayMotion owner, Dawn Whitehand, this eco dyeing workshop will be held on the Saturday 15th February from 1-4pm.
You will leave the workshop with two beautiful silk scarves that you have created yourself. You will learn how to prepare your silk fabrics then to arrange leaves and flowers on a silk scarf. We will explore folding methods for various print outcomes and try different binding materials for varying effects. We will also ‘set’ our scarves after the dyeing process so that the colouration is permanent and will not fade over time.
This workshop is a perfect introduction into the world of eco printing.
You will be able to use the skills learnt at this workshop at home to print on new or vintage silk textiles. Create something new or breath new life into an old piece.
The workshop fee is $95.00 and includes all materials
