ClayMotion pottery classes in Ballarat are taught by me, Dawn Whitehand, in a relaxed art studio environment. I have been a practising potter for over twenty years, and am passionate about all things clay.
I believe the plasticity of clay makes it a malleable and expressive medium, ideal for engging your child’s imagination, whilst also developing 3D thinking and problem solving skills. The course focuses on providing students with the fundamental skills and knowledge of working with clay, through hands-on experience and practice in an encouraging atmosphere.
What you will learn: The course begins with the basic handbuilding techniques of pinching, coiling and slab building in which students can explore form and texture. Clay sculpting is also explored. As the course progresses an overview of decorative techniques and their application is explored as pieces are kiln fired and become available for glazing.
