CHILDREN

Children’s Loom and Weave Project – recommended age 9-13yrs (this is a guide – you know your child best)

Tuesday 1st May – Tuesday 22nd May : 4-5.30pm

During this four week project children will create a loom from clay which will be fired for strength, and painted. Children will then learn to weave the warp threads and then weave their own design on their loom.

Week 1 – children will make their loom from clay, and impress textures and designs on them

Week 2 – children will paint their loom.

Week 3 – children will warp their loom. (thread warping skein onto the loom for creating the weave)

Week 4 – children will complete their weave design, and take their loom home.

Children’s Mosaic ProjectΒ – recommended age 8-13years (this is a guide only – you know your child best)

New Exhibition Opening – all welcome

The exhibition space in the new shop is kicking off the new year with recent abstract paintings by Moonambel artist Dawn Lorraine Lim. Entitled Eclectic, the exhibition features a series of paintings linked only by their abstraction …. there is no obvious theme, hence the exhibitionΒ title!

The opening is tomorrow February 3rd from 3 -5pm, and all are welcome to join us for wine and nibbles, and to enjoy some art.

If you can’t make the exhibition opening don’t worry … the exhibition runs throughout February. So drop in anytime during shop hours.

Happy New Year – January School Holiday Program

Happy New Year ClayMotioners!

ClayMotion is back on board after a short break, and until classes begin again the shop hours have changed:

And as always the January School Holiday Program will be running again this year on Wednesday the 17th and 24th with different projects on each day so children can enrol in both for some holiday creative fun.

Wednesday 17th is monster mugs using the coiling technique with applied decoration to create monster features, and the 24th is pinch pot fishΒ with applied decoration to create fish features.

More information on both programs and enrolment information is available in the School Holiday Program page and you can enrol HERE, or drop into the shop.

Also in January the gallery space features an end of year student exhibition so pop in and have a look at what can be accomplished during term classes.

Pottery in Ballarat – Classes are Underway & Super Busy!

We are half way through the term – where did that go?

It has been very hectic moving into the new studio, and waiting for powercorp to connect the new kiln πŸ™ so there has been a bit of to-ing and fro-ing to kiln fire works in my home studio – but no breakages, so all is good!!

Mid term enrolments are welcome, and the dates for term 1, 2018 will be up on the website within the next two weeks, so stay tuned.

And remember the ClayMotion shop in Mair Street has some gorgeous handcrafted gifts created by local makers, so keep that in mind for Christmas! And there are art supplies too, for the art lovers in your life.

In the meantime check out these busy pictures from classes so far this term…. happy claying!

Mosaic Classes in Ballarat – adults and children

Mosaics classes are starting at the NEW studio from the 15th November for both adults and children … and this is no ordinary mosaics class.

Students will model their own centrepiece for the mosaic wall hanging from clay which will be glazed and fired, and then students will build a mosaic composition around that centrepiece from ceramic shards.

This project will be completed in a four week block, and all the details are available on the MOSAICS page or ENROL online via the SHOP.

If you have any further enquiries call me on 0438382522

But the BIG news is that ClayMotion is relocating – we are moving into Central Ballarat – 34a Mair street to be exact …. which we are very excited about. We love that we will now be more central to the Ballarat community – drive, catch a bus, walk, or ride your bike!

As part of the move we will also be able to offer more services including more class choices, such as mosaics; casual studio space hire; exhibition space; locally made giftware; and a wider range of pottery and art supplies; plus continuing our existing services of birthday parties; firing service; mums and bubs; teambuilding and professional development.

ClayMotion Pottery Art and Mosaics in Ballarat

Before moving into the new premise we have had to repaint, remove carpet and build work benches…. followed by moving in all the tools and equipment – a huge job! The first week of classes are being held in the Dunnstown studio, but we plan to be operating in Mair street for week two of classes, and we are well on schedule to do so!

And our first new class for the premise we are offering MOSAICS – this class is a unique blend between pottery and mosaics because students will create a sculpted centrepiece for their piece and build a mosaic around it using ceramic shards – click HERE for more info.

Pottery Session with the 1st Cub & Scouts Ballan – Art & Design Badge

During the week I loaded the car with clay, pottery tools, coloured slips and brushes and hit the road to Ballan to visit the 1st Cub & Scouts in Ballan. Only a 25 minute drive from the studio, it is a very scenic drive when travelling the back way via the Old Melbourne Road.

Insert pic here of Old Melb Rd- oops didn’t take one! Stay tuned for an update when I deliver the finished pinch pots back to the group πŸ™‚

Anyway the brief was to make pinch pots and sculpt them into animals. My suggestion was to then paint them with coloured slips so that the project could be finished in the allotted time – one hour!! It was a tight squeeze, but we did finish in time.

There were twenty six children, so it was a busy hour, but there were a few adults helping out and keeping the project focused, so it ran smoothly. It also ran smoothly because the children were enjoying the activity – which is always half the battle!

Not all of the children were undertaking the activity for the Art and Design Badge as some already had that badge, but of those who were completing this badge they were required to take a worksheet home and recap what they had learnt through a series of questions and drawings. The children were quite attentive so I am sure they will do well.

Stay tuned for a post in Β couple of weeks showcasing the finished results …. in the meantime here’s what we got up to πŸ™‚
