Kids School Holiday Workshop: Christmas Decorations
The morning was a bit chilly but that didn’t stop the enthusiasm of a group of kids keen to make Christmas decorations for this years Christmas tree.
Six children ranging from 6-12 years energetically rolled out clay, cut out shapes and painted them with coloured slip.
When dry the decorations will be dipped into a clear glaze and fired, making them shiny.
Post firing the decorations can be highlighted with glitter and threaded with cotton or wool for hanging on either Christmas garlands or the Christmas tree.

Upcoming School Holiday Workshop
School holidays begin next week, and as per usual ClayMotion will be running a school holiday workshop during the second week of the holidays – this time we will be getting ready for Christmas by making Christmas decorations.
Children will make a range of decorations including hanging Santas, Christmas trees, stars and baubles, which will be painted with coloured slip (liquid clay). Decorations will be fired and parents contacted when they are ready to pick up.
Once you get your decorations they can be sprinkled with glitter and once its time to put the Christmas tree up they can be hung directly on your Christmas tree or threaded on yarn to make hanging garlands.
Thursday 3rd October 2013 10am – 12noon $30.00
Cost is $30.00 per child and includes all materials and firing.
Numbers are limited, so book early!!
**Remember if you would like to give this as a gift you can purchase a Gift Certificate**
The website has also been updated for term four classes and times, so be sure to enrol as soon as possible.

Term Three Busy Hands
Spring is definitely in the air here in Ballarat, and with that comes the final few weeks of term three. It also means the end of hibernation time for many residents, so if you are interested in taking up classes in term four it will be best to enrol as soon as possible, and the easiest way to do this is online.
In the meantime here are some works in progress made during this term to inspire you 🙂
Children’s School Holiday Workshop: Mask Making
Though a smaller group this time around – Ballarat’s cold Winter weather – there were some great and very creative masks made at yesterday’s children’s school holiday workshop.
Mask making is so interpretative… and the extremes went from one eyed monsters through to bunnys!
There will be another children’s workshop next school holidays, but remember there is also an after school children’s class on Wednesday afternoons. Click here for more information or here to enrol 🙂
In the meantime below are some pics of the wonderful creativity of yesterdays workshop… enjoy!

Here is some inspiration 🙂
Bowl and Plate Making workshop
An unusual spout of warm Autumn weather greeted participants in the Plate and Bowl Making Workshop on Thursday afternoon, and its amazing how much impact the weather has on enthusiasm and creativity! (Although, I think these students would have been enthusiastic regardless)
The group was a mixture of mums, therapists, art school teachers and a person who received the workshop as a birthday present using a ClayMotion Gift Certificate.
The workshop explored making different shaped bowls and plates using everyday objects as moulds, and then experimented with different decoration methods using coloured slips, texturing, marbling and sgraffito.
Some great bowl and plates were produced, and everyone had a great time.
ClayMotion workshops are a great way to explore pottery if you don’t have time to enrol in a ten week course, and are run periodically throughout the year.
If interested subscribe to this blog for updates 🙂

ClayMotion Birthday Party
Apart from a bit of wind Saturday afternoon was a gorgeous day- perfect for a 9 yr old birthday party!
Six happy kids, clay, coloured slip, lollies, balloons, sponge cake with jam and cream – what more could you want?
Creativity was all the go, and it didn’t take much to coax it out of these children – maybe next time i’ll add drawing funny faces onto the balloons!!
ClayMotion offers children’s birthday parties on most weekday afternoons and weekends – but don’t worry adults can have pottery birthday parties too (and hens afternoons or nights) simply message me to organise numbers and times.
Pottery parties are a great alternative to ‘junk food’ parties and the children receive something solid that they have created to take away with them.
Visit the Children’s Parties link for more information about booking 🙂
