Tuesday Tutorial – square forms on the pottery wheel

Happy Tuesday!

Over on the ClayMotion Facebook I have been sharing tutorials on Tuesdays for quite some time now, and it recently occurred to me that I should share them with ClayMotion blog followers too….so here we go:

Today I am sharing a tutorial from the Ceramics Arts Daily website: How to Make Squared-off Forms on the Pottery Wheel

This is not an overly difficult technique. For my students who can throw on the wheel, most of them would be capable of completing this project….and if you can’t throw on the pottery wheel, this project could be adapted to a hand built form – build your mug, or whatever form you would like to use, and then apply the technique from there.

So, give it go 🙂

Childrens Pottery Classes: finished artworks

Childrens Pottery Classes in Ballarat: finished artworks

Wow, where has the time one? there are only two more weeks of term and I haven’t posted any images of finished artwork! I promise to be more vigilant in future…

In the children’s class this term there have been lots of fantasy creatures, which is great. I love it when clay is used as a sculptural medium (as opposed to functional wares, such as bowl & cups – which is also great) and kids imaginations are so fluid!

There will be some children’s school holiday workshops scheduled during January, so be sure to stay tuned by becoming a ClayMotioner and subscribing to the blog 🙂

You can also follow ClayMotion on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram

And without further ado here are the promised creature pics 🙂

ClayMotion Christmas Break up Parties – try something new!

animated-merry-christmas-image-0259ClayMotion Christmas Party – why not try something different this year for your Christmas break up?

There is nothing better than a glass of wine with a piece of clay in your hand!

This is a great idea for office break ups, sporting clubs, mothers groups, childrens play groups and any social group in general. Packages will vary depending on whether the xmas party is catering for adults or children, but will generally include a range of beverages, finger foods and a clay activity.

Please contact me to discuss your specific needs on 0438382522 or email me on dawn@claymotion.com.au to start the discussion 🙂

ClayMotion Birthday Parties – Creative & Healthy!

Kid’s Birthday Parties in Ballarat

ClayMotion hosted another great birthday party on the weekend – this time for Jack who was turning ten. Apparently Jack is very artistic, including hosting a comic writing, designing and drawing afternoon once a week after school with his friends, many of whom attended the party – an initiative he thought up himself!!

Its great to come across artistic kids, but then I think all kids (and adults) are artistic… sometimes it just needs to be retrieved… but that’s another blog post!

Although a chilly day, it was a great afternoon with the fire blazing making the studio snuggly cozy.

The kids had a great time…. as did the adults who stayed, I suspect!

For more information on ClayMotion Birthday parties for kids (but don’t be afraid to book an adults party!) visit the Childrens Parties page or ring me on 048382522.

Here’s some pictures from the weekend 🙂
